Mount Rushmore: Action Movie Franchises

Hollywood making an action movie: easy! Hollywood making three or more action movies in a franchise: difficult. Therefore, I present the Mount Rushmore of Action Movie Franchises.

John Wick (2014 – TBD)

Ryan Moon | The Tailgate Society

This franchise is absolutely killin’ it. They have produced three incredible action movies with them all receiving an 86 or higher on Rotten Tomatoes, with the Hollywood rarity of the next movie being better than the previous. I am excited to see how the remainder of the movies turn out.

James Bond (1962 – TBD)

You cannot have a Mount Rushmore without James Bond. Bond… James Bond has succeeded over multiple generations. The more than 25 films have grossed nearly $8 billion at the box office

Jason Bourne (2002 – 2016)

Ryan Moon | The Tailgate Society

Jesus Christ that is Jason Bourne. With the majority of the five films receiving 82 or higher on Rotten Tomatoes and the movies grossing over $1.6 billion at the box office, it is hard to leave off the Bourne franchise.

Mission Impossible (1996 – 2024)

Ryan Moon | The Tailgate Society

Finally, a main character with a name that doesn’t start with J. Spanning across four different decades and a box office of $3.57 billion, this franchise continues to improve with each movie better than the previous. The last three movies of the franchise have all received 93 or higher on Rotten Tomatoes with two more waiting on deck.

Ryan is originally from Casey, Iowa but now resides in West Des Moines with his wife Haley, their son Holden, and their two dogs Hilton and Stark. Want to get Ryan to rant for hours? Hand him bourbon and bring up the Game of Thrones ending, complain about millennials, mention Iowa State heartaches or politics.
