We’re more than halfway through the college football season, and fam, I’m going through it when it comes to my beloved Wyoming Cowboys. They started the season 0-4 in non-conference play and are 1-2 in conference play. I’m not optimistic they’ll pickup too many more Ws in the rest of the conference matchups.

Wyoming hosts Utah State this upcoming weekend, and the winner of the matchup will move forward 2-6. Needless to say, this could be a rough game of football. Surprising nobody, it’s not on any major network. Wyoming has a chance to beat this Utah State team, especially since both teams are struggling to win. Usually this a fairly close game and it’s looking like this year is no different than years past.
Next weekend the Cowboys travel to New Mexico to take on the Lobos. Another team with a losing record (as of 23 Oct). New Mexico beat Utah State, but that’s not saying much. If Wyoming pulls off the win against Utah State, the momentum could get them another W against New Mexico.
Blessedly the Pokes have a bye the weekend of 9 November. They could be using the time to strategize for the final three games, two of which they will almost certainly lose (unless an act of God occurs). The excitement of the Wyoming-CSU Border War game could help amp the team up to get a win. And they’ll be coming off a bye week, so they’ll be somewhat rested when they head down the road to Fort Collins. Wyoming fans will also probably travel for that game if the Cowboys pick up some momentum and wins. However, if they continue to take Ls in the Utah State and New Mexico games…fan attendance could be dicey.
I may be delusional but I am not so delusional to think this Wyoming football team can beat a ranked Boise State team. The last time that happen, Wyoming had Josh Allen. It’s a night I remember very well. The night the 2024 Wyoming Cowboys host Boise State, I will not remember that night for anything more than the Friendsgiving activities I’m participating in. Those blue turf loving donkeys are going to ride in and brand Jonah Field with a Buster Bronco logo on a frigid November night. I hate it.

To close out the season, Wyoming will head to Pullman to put up one last fight. Wazzu is probably going to come out on top in this matchup. They’re leading the Pac-2 (LMFAO), but in all seriousness, they’re having a decent season. They have a loss to Boise State, which will likely be their only loss of the season.
It’s not that I’m not used to sad seasons of football from the Pokes. But this season just seems extra sad with the poor performances under a new coach. Ah well, as many of us are used to saying, there’s always next season. Besides, basketball starts soon so we can all experience heartbreak in new ways.
